Competition Terms & Conditions

The terms for the Wool4School Competition (Australia) ("Competition") include the Student Competition Summary, the Teacher Competition Summary and the Terms and Conditions each of which is set out in this document ("Terms").


STUDENT COMPETITION SUMMARY

1)

Key Dates
 You must register and submit your Entry by the below dates:
a)

Registration & Competition Opens:
1st December 2021
b)

Competition Closes:
5th August 2022
c)

Winners Publicly Announced:
1st September 2022

2)

Student Competition Categories
 The Student Competition will have four categories (‘Categories’) as follows:

a)

Junior Designer Category - Students in academic years 7and 8.

b)

Mid Designer Category - Students in academic years 9 and 10.

c)

Senior Designer Category - Students in academic year 11.

d)

Aspiring Designer Category - Students in academic year 12.

3)

Eligibility
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible to participate:

a)

You must be in the applicable school academic year group at the time of submission, and for the duration of the Competition; and

b)

Australian Resident.

c)

Additional eligibility criteria for the Aspiring Designer Category (Year 12). In order to be eligible for the Aspiring Designer Category (Year 12) Prize you must:

  • be eligible to receive the Australian Commonwealth government’s FEE-HELP (which includes being an Australian citizen or certain New Zealand Special Category Visa holders);
  • submit the following documents (only if requested to do so by the Promoter) in order to determine that you are eligible to receive FEE-HELP and ensure that you meet TBC, Australia’s minimum requirements in respect of academic achievement and creative ambition:
    • your passport or birth certificate;
    • your resume/CV;
    • your latest Academic Transcripts (e.g. High School Report, HSC/VCE Results or Highest Qualification Achieved)
    • a 300 word motivational statement written by you stating why you would like to study fashion and what/who inspires your creativity. You may want to include your personal interests and career goals (please see Whitehouse’s Interview & Portfolio Guide).
    • must be willing to:
      • fund their own costs of equipment kits and consumables, locker hire and all other facilities and services that the student requires during the program
      • fund the Student Service Amenity Fee
      • adhere to the policies and procedures of the institution
      • maintain a minimum academic score of C+ average or above
      • contribute as an Ambassador for Whitehouse
      • Pay a one-off administrative fee of AUD $308.00 to Whitehouse to facilitate your enrolment
    • The institution reserves its right to cancel the Scholarship if the recipients is in breach of the institutions policies and procedures.

Entry requirements
Your Entry must include all the below requirements and be submitted via the wool4school.com website. Anything in excess of those requirements will not be considered. A suggested maximum of eight files per student however, multiples file uploads are permitted with each file limited to 10MB (only .pdf, .jpg, .png, .doc or .docx format). Note: in your Entry please do not include any personal information about people other than you or your parent/guardian.

a)

If you are an Entrant in the Junior Designer Category (Year 7 and Year 8) you must submit the following:

i) Illustrated Design
An Illustrated Design of your outfit (‘Outfit’), which must feature:

  • Annotations of suitable fabric selections; and
  • Minimum of one piece, with a maximum of four pieces, plus one accessory; and
  • Proposed fabric composition for the entire Outfit should be a minimum of 70 percent wool (incorporate knit or woven fabrics or a combination); and
  • Do not include your name on this illustration.

b)

If you are an Entrant in the Mid Designer Category (Year 9 and Year 10) you must submit the following:

i) Illustrated Design
An Illustrated Design of your outfit (‘Outfit’), which must feature:

  • Annotations of suitable fabric selections; and
  • Minimum of one piece, with a maximum of four pieces, plus one accessory; and
  • Proposed fabric composition for the entire Outfit should be a minimum of 70 percent wool (incorporate knit or woven fabrics or a combination); and
  • Do not include your name on this illustration.

ii) Creative Statement:
A Creative Statement which must:

  • Be no more than 500 words in length; and
  • Explains your design concept and provide description of the garments design; and
  • Demonstrates an understanding of The Woolmark logo; and
  • Describes how your outfit reflects the brief and
  • Provide a justification of wool materials and innovations used in your design and those properties and benefits it best reflects.

iii) End-User Profile:
An End-User Profile which must:

  • Create a profile that reflects the requirement and style of the end user.

c)

If you are an Entrant in the Senior Designer Category (Year 11) or the Aspiring Designer Category (Year 12) you must submit the following:

i) Illustrated Design
An Illustrated Design of your outfit (‘Outfit’), which must feature:

  • Annotations of suitable fabric selections; and
  • Minimum of one piece, with a maximum of four pieces, plus one accessory; and
  • Proposed fabric composition for the entire Outfit should be a minimum of 70 percent wool (incorporate knit or woven fabrics or a combination); and
  • Do not include your name on this illustration.

ii) Creative Statement:
A Creative Statement which must:

  • Be no more than 500 words in length; and

iii) End-User Profile:
An End-User Profile which must:

  • Create a profile that reflects the requirement and style of the end user.

Technical Sketch:
A Technical Sketch which must:

  • Detail the technical elements of your Outfit; and
  • Visually demonstrate the properties of your Outfit; and
  • Be drawn to scale.

Entrants of the Aspiring Designer Category (Year 12) please note the additional Eligibility criteria set out in 3(c) above.

5)

Judging Criteria
Your Entry will be judged by a panel of four judges, according to the following criteria:

a)

An innovative, creative and cohesive design that meets the set design brief and standard of competition quality.

b)

Fashion illustration shows clarity, annotations and technique.

c)

Suitability of wool materials selected for the design, this includes wool innovations and blends.

d)

Demonstrate understanding of the properties and characteristics of wool.

e)

Show understanding of what the Woolmark logo means.

f)

Overall visual presentation.

5)

Prizes

a)

Junior Designer Category (Year 7 and Year 8):

  • Winner’s certificate
  • $100 Assembly Label voucher
  • 1-year magazine subscription
  • Tula Pink Sheers, needles and thread, from BERNINA

b)

Mid Designer Category (Year 9 and Year 10):

  • Winner’s certificate
  • $100 Assembly Label voucher
  • 1-year magazine subscription
  • Tula Pink Sheers, needles and thread, from BERNINA
  • XP-Pen Graphic Tablet

c)

Senior Designer Category (Year 11):

  • Winner’s certificate
  • $100 Assembly Label voucher
  • Bernette Crafter sewing machine, from BERNINA
  • Internship program with Assembly Label’s Head Office, between 2 to 4 days of work, days will be confirmed closer to the date of the agreed internship.

d)

Aspiring Designer Category (Year 12):

  • Winner’s certificate
  • $100 Assembly Label voucher
  • Garment created into a digital 3D version and promoted on Wool4School platforms
  • BERNINA 325 machine or L450 Overlocker
  • A 50% Scholarship to Whitehouse Institute of Design located at either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane campus

 


TEACHER COMPETITION SUMMARY

1)

 You must register and submit your Entry by the below dates:
a)

Eligibility
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible to participate:

a)

Teach at least one of academic years 7, 8, 9, 10,11 or 12; and

b)

Incorporated the Wool4School lesson plans and relevant Category; and

c)

Be an Australian Resident.

Entry requirements
Your Entry must include all the below requirements and be submitted via the wool4school.com website. Anything in excess of those requirements will not be considered. Multiples file uploads are permitted with each file limited to 10MB (only .pdf, .jpg, .png, .doc or .docx format). Note: in your Entry please do not include any personal information about people other than you or your students who have entered the Student Competition.

a)

Complete the Wool4School Teacher Questionnaire (‘Questionnaire’).

Judging Criteria
Your entry will be judged according to the following criteria:

a)

Evidence of student submissions in the classroom (i.e. student knowledge and understand of wool is adequate)

b)

Evidence of implementation of the units of work in the classroom (i.e. classroom displays, additional resources created)

c)

Evidence of students’ understanding and learning about wool

d)

Quality and quantity of student entries (i.e. student entries meeting all set criteria)

e)

Reflective and thoughtful teacher responses

  • Winner’s certificate
  • $100 Assembly Label voucher
  • Wool fabrics for the classroom (to the value of $2,000)

WOOL4SCHOOL COMPETITION (AUSTRALIA) TERMS AND CONDITIONS

OVERVIEW

  1. The Wool4School Student Design Competition for the year set out in the Key Dates section of the Student Competition Summary (‘Student Competition’) and the Wool4School Teacher Design Competition set out in the Key Dates section of the Teacher Competition Summary (‘Teacher Competition’) together form the Competition.
  2. The Competition is conducted by The Woolmark Company Pty Limited (ACN 067 866 657) (‘Promoter’), who is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian Wool Innovation Limited (‘AWI’) (ABN 12 095 165 558). Level 6, 68 Harrington Street, Sydney The Rocks, 2000, New South Wales, Australia. Any rights of the Promoter are extended to its affiliates.
  3. Your entry to the Competition (Entry) is free of charge and must be in accordance with the Terms, including the ‘Entry requirements’ listed in the Student Competition Summary and the Teacher Competition Summary (as applicable). By entering you agree to be bound by the Terms.
  4. The Promoter may at their discretion refuse you entry to the Competition or to award you any prize if you fail to comply with these Terms, the law, or if your involvement with the Competition may cause adverse publicity to the Promoter or the Australian Wool Industry.
  5. All Entries must be received by the Promoter by no later than the time stated in the Student Competition Summary and the Teacher Competition Summary, as applicable. All competition entries received after the times there stated are automatically disqualified.

 

YOUR OBLIGATIONS

  1. If you are under the age of 18 need to have the consent of their parent or caregiver to enter the Student Competition. If you are selected as a state finalist, your parent or guardian is required to complete a ‘Permission to Publish Form’, and a ‘Parental Consent Form’ and a ‘Permission to Publish Form (which the Promotor will provide at a suitable time). You must complete and submit these forms in order to validate your entry and allow you to progress further in the competition. Finalists who do not provide these completed forms will not be eligible to progress further in the Competition or receive a Prize.
  2. Your Entry must not include inappropriate language, gratuitous violence, sexual references or statements that, in the Promoter’s opinion, promote hatred towards an individual, race, or community.
  3. You promise and warrant that:
    1. all details provided with your Entry are true and accurate;
    2. your Entry is wholly comprised of original work, created and owned by you, not previously communicated to the public;
    3. your Entry does not contain commercial words, art, photographs or images;
    4. your Entry does not contain any identifiable product or product logo other than your school’s crest;
    5. you have all necessary rights and licenses to grant the rights set out in these Terms and will produce evidence of any such rights or licenses at the Promoter's request;
    6. the exercise of the rights granted to the Promoter in these Terms will not infringe the rights of any third parties; and
    7. you will indemnify the Promoter against any loss of damage resulting from any breach of these warranties.

 

COMPETITION WINNERS AND PRIZE(S)

  1. The following clauses 10 to 16 (inclusive) apply only if you are chosen by the Competition judging panel as a winner (each a ‘Winner’). The decision of the judging panel (acting reasonably) will be final.
  2. During judging:
    1. chance plays no part in determining the Winners; and
    2. the judging panel may choose more than one Winner/runner up at their sole discretion.
  3. Winner's will be notified of their selection by the judging panel on the date specified in the Student Competition Summary or Teacher Competition Summary (as applicable)
  4. You will receive the relevant prize set out in the Student Competition Summary or Teacher Competition Summary (as applicable) (each a "Prize").
  5. The Prize values are correct at time of printing but no responsibility is accepted for any variation in the value of any Prize. Prizes supplied by a third party are subject to availability. In the event that any prize is unavailable for whatever reason, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute any prize for a prize of equal or greater value.
  6. If you have not been in contact with the Promotor to claim your Prize within 5 days of a notification email, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the Prize to the next eligible entrant. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able (or otherwise fail) to take up the Prize. In that event, the new Winner will be selected in accordance with the Student Competition or Teacher Competition Summary.
  7. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable, and non-monetary components cannot be taken as a monetary payment.
  8. Any transport awarded shall be economy class and does not include travel insurance, the cost of transfers to and from stations, food and drink, spending money, tax or personal expenses. Any other costs incurred that are incidental to the fulfilment of the Prize are your sole responsibility.

 

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

  1. To the full extent permitted by law (which does not affect your statutory rights), the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate you or accept any liability for:
    1. any incorrect or inaccurate information;
    2. any technical error that may occur in the course of the administration of this Competition;
    3. any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, loss or delay of any Entry or otherwise in operation or transmission, communications line failure, technical malfunction, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of your Entry or the running of the Competition; or
    4. any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or consequential) to you or your property as a result of any person entering into the Competition or accepting or using any Prize, including without limitation non-receipt or damage to any Prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees.

 

DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY

  1. The Promoter collects and holds personal information about you (as an Entrant in the Competition) to include you in the Competition, administer the Competition and, where appropriate, award prizes. Where third parties supply prize(s) relating to the Competition, you agree that the Promoter may share your personal information with that third party for that purpose. If the personal information requested is not provided, you will be ineligible to participate.
  2. You agree that the Promoter may, in the event they become a Finalist or Winner, publish or cause to be published your name, photograph or likeness and locality in any media globally, without compensation.
  3. You must comply with all applicable privacy laws in the collection, protection, use, maintenance, handling and disclosure of personal information regarding this Competition.
  4. If you are an Entrant in the Year 11 Competition or the Year 12 Competition and have provided your consent to the Promoter sharing your personal information with Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia for marketing purposes, the Promotor may provide your personal information with Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia.

YOU accept THAT personal information provided to the Promoter in accordance with these Competition Terms will be COLLECTED, held, used AND DISCLOSED according to the Promoter’s Privacy Policy available on REQUEST OR AT http://www.wool4school.com/privacy and may be transferred to the Promoter's computer systems WORLDWIDE INCLUDING in Europe, North America, ASIA and Australia for the purposes of the Competition.

GENERAL

  1. This Competition in run in Australia only.
  2. You may only submit one Entry.
  3. The Promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms at its sole discretion.
  4. You grant the Promoter and its affiliated companies a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, sub-licensable, royalty free license to use the intellectual property rights in your Entry (and any component of it) for any promotional and marketing purposes without notice and without any fee being paid, including (without limitation) to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, adapt, store, re-format and sub-licence the Entry.
  5. You acknowledge the Promoter and its affiliated companies may exercise the global, non-exclusive right to communicate your Entry in whole or in part to the public on any media platform.
  6. You acknowledge the Promoter and its affiliated companies may allow users to view, reproduce, download and otherwise deal in the copyright works attached to and embodied in your Entry.
  7. Upon entry you waive your Moral Rights (described below) and any other similar rights in the Entry and consent to any act or omission that would otherwise infringe your moral or similar rights. In these Terms, Moral Rights includes:
    1. a right of attribution of authorship;
    2. a right not to have authorship falsely attributed;
    3. a right of integrity of authorship; and
    4. any right of a similar nature which is conferred by statute and which exists or comes to exist anywhere in the world.
  8. If for any reason the conduct or operation of the Competition is not capable of proceeding as planned, is interfered with, or disrupted in any way, the Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, suspend, modify or recommence the
  9. All decisions made by the Promoter regarding the Competition are final and the Promoter will not enter into any correspondence with you.
  10. If any provision of these Terms is held to be illegal, invalid, void or otherwise unenforceable, it will be severed from the remaining provisions, which will continue in full force and effect.
  11. The Competition is not open to:
    1. any employee, officer, servant, agent, supplier or contractor of the Promoter or AWI, or their related bodies corporate or their agencies involved with the Competition; or
    2. any natural or adopted child, or sibling of a person referred to in paragraph 31.1.
  12. These Terms shall be governed by the laws of New South Wales, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
